The German word for “favorite” is Lieblings_____.

The question often comes up in our German classes on how to express “favorites” (as in, “My favorite place is…”). You can do this by simply adding the object (e.g. “book”, “music”, “food”, “position”, etc.) to the word-part Lieblings — it‘s that easy!

Examples

Lieblingsbuch — Favorite book

Lieblingsmusik — Favorite music

Lieblingsauthor — Favorite author

Lieblingsessen — Favorite food

Mein Lieblingsbuch ist das Telefonbuch. My favorite book is the telephone book.
