Stephan is one of the best language instructors I have come across! With an intuitive knowledge of individual students' struggles with German and a capacity to explain the structure of the language, in context, that exceeded my expectations ...watching Stephan go through strategies to explain sometimes complicated language structures helped me immensely as an instructor, to say nothing of my growth as a student.

Why Take Private lessons?
Having a private German teacher is a lot like having a personal trainer at the gym. With your own tutor you'll get custom-made exercises, ultra-specific feedback on your progress, tailored tips and tricks on how to improve, and, above all, someone to motivate you to do the work required to speak German like a champion. Please truly consider this question: How much is reaching your goals worth for you?

How does Stephan teach grammar?
Stephan's core philosophy revolves around the surprisingly unorthodox ideas of not correcting students unless they've been explained what they're doing wrong, and explaining language structure in clear English. See what a difference that makes.
How will Stephan teach me?
Stephan has many years of teaching experience, with a huge variety of different learners with diverse needs and challenges. The know-how to adjust his method to best fit you and help you reach your goals is second nature to him. In the first session you will work out the best teaching style together.
About Stephan, your German trainer.
Stephan is a professional German and English teacher and an experienced teacher trainer. He got his formal start teaching English in the US Peace Corps, followed by several years setting up and managing the pedagogical departments of an international business language school based in Munich, and a popular language school he co-founded in Berlin. Outside of his responsibilities of maintaining a high-quality trainer pool and developing innovative teaching materials, he also spent thousands of hours in various companies' meeting rooms, teaching groups of employees or coaching their CEOs. As a bilingual German/English speaker with a passion for languages, he is uniquely able to relate to his students' difficulties and the challenges they face when learning a new language, to motivate his students, and instill a sense of fun into every lesson. The main benefits of booking a private lesson package
There are a lot of ways to learn German. You can either pay to join a group of learners at a local language school (or an online one) and stick to their rules, or you get an app or book and try to keep at it, you do a self-study course - or get your own online teacher. Let's talk about why the last option might be best for you.
Cost
Most people's biggest deterrent to springing for a private German teacher is the cost. But if you consider that one-to-one students reach their desired proficiency 30% faster than group-lesson students, and that with Deutschable's packages two people pay the same price as one, it becomes tough to argue about price.
Time
If you're like most of Stephan's private students, you don't have the kind of life where you can easily just take an intensive German course at a school somewhere, regularly. You've got vacations, family "surprises", a hectic work schedule... You need flexibility and to set your own calendar. With Deutschable's flexible re-booking policy and easy arrangement of online one-to-one lessons, you never have to worry about your time again.
Motivation
Nowadays, so many people have problems with concentration, procrastination, getting themselves motivated and being productive: The nice thing about a private teacher is that lying back and feeling bad about not doing anything is not an option. Inside the lessons you will receive the encouragement to keep at it, and setting up and keeping successive lesson appointments ensures that you stay on top of your learning progress.
The Personal Touch
Every private lesson package includes full access to all of Deutschable's self-study courses as well, which can be used to supercharge the private lessons and fill the gap between sessions. But what no self-study course, and no group course can do is give you 100% of the attention. Consider that, compared to being in a class of 8 people, you would get over 4x more speaking time, which means more analysis of your needs, and more practice with real-life communication that actually matters to you.
What happens when you enroll?
Two things are extremely important to consider when getting a private German teacher: Do you have a good chemistry? And do your busy schedules allow the amount and frequency of sessions that you want? For this reason, before any larger package of sessions is purchased, you'll need to let Stephan know what kind of course you have in mind, and then have a Get-to-Know (or demo) lesson with the teacher. Here's what happens.
Initial Contact
Use the form below to get in touch with Stephan and let him know your current German level, what your learning goal is and how soon you want to reach it, when you're available for lessons - and what you expect from the lessons. Stephan will write you back right away, usually within a day.
Demo Lesson
If the intial email conversations suggest that it's a good match in terms of schedule and expectations, then you can return to this page and book a demo lesson. This is a requirement if you have not met before. Once you make the transaction, Stephan will organize an online meeting at a time that's convenient for you. This is usually done with Google Meet (though alternatives are possible), and requires you to have a microphone and camera.
The Main Course
If, after the get-to-know session you both agree to move forward, then you can purchase a course package on this page. As soon as the transaction is complete, you will automatically get access to all self-study courses on the site (if you don't have it already) and your password will be sent to you via email. Stephan will organize your next live session at a time that's convenient for you.
Which package is right for you?
Two for the price of one! Whether you're doing the lessons alone or with your friend/partner, the price is the same - so you each only pay half. Each package (other than the demo lesson) includes 365 days of full access to all Deutschable self-study courses, a value of €59.99. Please note Deutschable's cancellation and refund policies in our Terms and Conditions and that availability is limited.

Not in the budget right now? It's no problem at all.

What the students are saying:
I have struggled to really grasp the concept until I found your website on Google. The videos are concise. The practice sessions feel personalized and are challenging. You explain in my native language (English) which makes it easier to relate. Thanks to you, I feel more confident by the day.
Kweku - Ghana
This course is very useful for me, and my vocabulary has greatly improved. In particular, I enjoyed the lesson on deciphering the gender articles from the spelling of the words, I find this very useful and I regularly go back to revise that lesson. Thank you for that, as I did not learn it in my paid German class. I will be happy to share it with other expats within my circle who are learning German, because it has really helped me.
Priscilla - Germany
I started with Duolingo to try it out. But I realized that there was not enough information. I started looking for some training without being tied to a tutor and accidentally came across this course. What attracted me was the clear division into modules. This means that I won’t have to think about where to start. I can move from topic to topic. I like that each lesson lasts no more than 5 minutes. This means that I can always find time, even while working.
Katya - Georgia
I tried the Volkshochschule, but the process was slow! I had three different teachers for one German A1.1 course! And each one had a different teaching style, which did not make the experience pleasant.
I am actually an English teacher. So I say this in all sincerity, this is probably the best course that I have taken. I like that your videos are only 5 minutes. I try to do one module per day.
Fortis - Germany
Deutschable is the most amazing German course I've ever found for beginners! The teacher Stephan explains very well and has a good methodology to teach us! He doesn't beat around the bush while teaching! I'm enjoying the course a lot and learning too!
Leonardo - Brazil
Thank you for giving me the ability to learn this introduction to the German language. I found it very
helpful. And I also recommended it to my friends. I have been struggling to learn German for over six months, but when I found Deutschable, the language has become more interesting.
Shafiu - Nigeria
A final word.
A little higher up on this page I posed a question, and maybe you had a chance to think about it a little: How much is reaching your goals worth to you?
I imagine, if you made it this far, that your goal is to speak German. Maybe you want to make a new life for yourself and live and work in Germany. Maybe you're trying to impress your in-laws. And maybe you're trying to do well on a big German test.
Regardless of what your reasons are, you have this goal of learning German. How much time and money is reaching this goal worth to you?
What is it costing you right now in terms of time, money, and effort not to be rapidly reaching that goal?
Take a chance and hopefully I'll see you in class soon.
Bis bald!
Stephan
